Is Therapy The New Religion?

It is said that many people are heading down the professional therapy highway and discovering so many insecurities about themselves which for some intensifies dependence on the therapist - the person with the roadmap to their “happiness”.

Or is it that `compassion` which is fundamental in many religions is also prevalent in therapy? Therapy helps people communicate in a healthy and compassionate way and supports a positive way forward which often religion does not provide for people?
